Donnie Wahlberg has gone through a meaningful shift in his personal life, describing it as a journey that has taken him years to fully embrace.
The Boston Blue actor has found his way back to Christianity, diving deeper into his faith after acknowledging that wealth and celebrity status left a void inside him he couldn’t ignore.
“It’s really in the last year that I really have committed myself on a deeper level,” he shared during an appearance on The George Janko Show.
According to Donnie, constantly stepping into the role of “peacemaker” — whether at home or in his professional life — and feeling compelled to resolve every problem around him eventually took a toll, leaving him with a quiet but persistent sense that something was absent.
“I felt at the bottom… everything to the outside world looks perfect and I was empty,” he confessed. “I can’t do it anymore without Him. I’m missing something in my life.”
‘It Makes Me Better’
Despite this profound shift, Donnie is clear that his renewed spirituality isn’t about becoming a different person. “It doesn’t make me not me. It makes me a better me,” he explained, expressing his desire to use his public platform to spread positivity and faith.
His wife, Jenny McCarthy, has been walking a similar path. She opened up in December about her own deep surrender to God and her evolving relationship with faith.
“Some people have to work really hard to hear Him,” said Jenny, who grew up in a Catholic household, during her conversation on the Culture Apothecary podcast. “I’ve got a direct line. I mean, Jesus is my homie.”
Jenny also spoke about leaning into what she called “conservative values,” including a belief in questioning authority, reducing government involvement in daily life, and drawing closer to God.
Relationship with Jenny
The couple’s love story began in March 2013, and they exchanged vows at the charming Hotel Baker in St. Charles, Illinois, on August 31, 2014.
One of their most beloved traditions is renewing those vows annually. Donnie once reflected on the practice in an Instagram post, writing: “Some people ask ‘why do you renew your vows every year?’ Those tend to be the same people that also ask ‘how do you keep your marriage so new?’ #happyanniversary @jennymccarthy aka Mrs Wahlberg.
“I’m so blessed to call you my wife, and so honored to be your husband. I thank God every day for you, and I thank you always for ‘taking care of my heart’ — as promised. I love you. On to forever.”
Marking their ninth anniversary in 2023, Jenny took to social media to celebrate her husband with a touching post accompanied by a gallery of photos capturing their years together, including cherished glimpses from their wedding.
In her own words, she wrote: “As I reflect on our journey, I feel honored, grateful and blessed that I get to live inside the greatest love story ever lived. I’m grateful for your kindness that touches every soul you meet, and the love that has become the very heartbeat of my existence.
“As each passing year passes, I fall in love with you all over again. With you, every moment is a treasure, every memory is a masterpiece, and every day is a celebration of the beautiful love we share.
“Here’s to us, my love – to the past we’ve cherished, the present we hold, and the future that awaits us. Thank you for being my partner, my confidant, and my forever love. Happy Anniversary.”
