Saurora Grace, 31, has spent the last three years working as a sex surrogate, taking on more than 500 clients in that time. If the premise sounds familiar, it shares some resemblance with the plot of the Jennifer Lawrence comedy No Hard Feelings, where a shy adult virgin’s parents pay someone to sleep with their son. Except this is entirely real.
Sex surrogates are the practitioners featured on Channel 4’s Virgin Island, where they help adult virgins work through their emotional and physical barriers to intimacy, sometimes including sexual contact.
In a conversation with The Sun, Saurora opened up about what drew her to this work. She traced it back to losing her mother to alcoholism in 2022, a loss that fundamentally changed how she sees human connection. That grief, she explained, made her want to stop people from denying themselves intimacy and pleasure until it’s too late.
Her client base spans a wide range, from people aged 21 all the way to 80, both men and women. Many of them live with disabilities and have never had a sexual experience. Others are able-bodied but find themselves in sexless relationships or have simply never been with anyone. A session with her typically runs about three hours, starting with a massage, and may gradually progress depending on what the client is comfortable with.
What stands out is that in a number of cases, it isn’t the clients themselves who reach out first. It’s their parents, who want their adult children with disabilities to have the same experiences others take for granted. Research suggests the majority of disabled people are sexually active, yet society still tends to treat them as though they have no sexual needs at all.
Her work has come at a personal cost. A past relationship ended because of it, and she’s been told she’d never find someone who could love her for what she does. Still, she stands by the value of what she offers and believes that if her critics could see the real impact on her clients, their perspective would shift.
